JL Racing

JL Racing is a family-owned and operated business, run and staffed by athletes. For over 25 years, they have been designing, engineering, and manufacturing their technical training and racing clothing in Orange County, California. At their factory, they have complete control over the means of production, the timing, and their impact on the community and the environment. They source their materials as close to production as possible, use recycled, sustainable fibers whenever possible and have solar panels on their roof which provide 60% of their energy needs! All their workers enjoy fully paid health and dental insurance, retirement and profit sharing benefits. Their employees repay the commitment to them with consistent, quality work which you'll recognize it in every garment they make.

Joline Esparza started JL in the early eighties while rowing and competing for the US World Team, ultimately winning a Silver Medal in the Open Women's Eight, Lucerne, '82. She designed and made shorts and tights that worked for her, her rowing companions, and her husband Ken, a track and field athlete. In the years since then, Joline and Ken have developed JL Design Enterprises, Inc., a full-service sports apparel company specializing in customized uniforms for training and racing.

As a company they are committed to quality, value and service. As a family they stand behind the integrity of their company. They use fabric which has been manufactured in BlueSign® factories, meaning they have met the most stringent certification for clean and sustainable manufacture. BlueSign® facilities must prove that every step of their supply chain, and their own operation, are sustainable and non-polluting. The BlueSign® standard is based on five principles: resource productivity, consumer safety, air emission, water emission and occupational health and safety.

In addition to Joline's rowing career, the JL family are all keen cyclists and have developed the JL Velo line of cycling apparel, which again is designed and made with uncompromised, high performance in mind, using the best technical fabrics and components available. The JL range now covers apparel for rowing, kayaking and canoe racing with JL Racing, cycling with JL Velo and athletics with JL Track. They are specialists at designing and producing top quality customised team kit and because they understand the needs of high performance competitors, every item of clothing can also be custom sized to get the perfect fit everytime.

The JL team love their sport as much as we do at Get More Kit!

JL Velo

The same awesome family that started JL racing rowing kit are also obsessed with cycling! While running their own cycling store in San Diego for 5 years, Ken built a great reputation among clubs and pro riders in the area for this expertise and integrity. The advent of catalogue and online bike sales meant the end of their independent, family-owned shop but was great news for their clothing lines, since both Ken and Joline put all their energy into JL. Ken and Joline's daughters Kate and Alec literally grew up in the business, chasing each other through the racks at the bike shop when very small and asking the right questions about the inner workings of a factory as they grew up. After racing on both track and road, Kate is now an integral part of the JL team, championing the JL Velo division of the business.

JL Velo custom team cycling kit does for cycling what JL Racing does for rowing. It is kit that is incredibly comfortable to wear, made using the highest quality, ethically sourced, sustainable fabrics and components. The art team at JL make sure the custom design is super sharp and the production team ensure the highest quality of construction. Each garment can be custom sized to fit every athlete in your team perfectly, helping them perform at their best and stay happy in the saddle time after time. There are no minimum order quantities for team kit and custom sizing is done at no additional cost.

JL Track

Ken Mills, Vice President of JL, started his sporting career in athletics, excelling in throwing events, as well as both high jump and long jump. He set many records while at University High School; his record for the discus only fell in 2000, and his shot record held until 2004, broken by an athlete that Ken coached. In 1980 he competed for the US Junior National Team in Canada and was recruited to UCI where he was a points leader for the team. The name Mills is still on the record at UCI for the Discus. Ken trained under Art Venegas with the top throwers of his generation. Faced with the dilemma of every top-class track athlete of the period, Ken made the decision to remain clean. Though this contributed to his early withdrawal from competition, it is part of what defines Ken and what he brings to his management style at JL - dedication with honesty and hard work.

Designed by passionate, experienced athletes, JL Track uncompromised athletics clothing sets a very high benchmark for quality, durability, comfort while training and competing. Whether you are buying training kit for yourself or interested in getting new custom kit for your team, we can help you get your perfect fit every time with our custom sizing and make ordering for teams a breeze.
